New scene set for Rossmoyne SHS students

• Teachers, students benefiting from new buildings in $14m upgrade

• Incorporate public art based on foreign languages & binary code

• New amphitheatre provides forum for students' outdoor music, dance & drama

One of Western Australia's top public secondary schools has gained new buildings and grounds to match its excellent academic record.

Education Minister Liz Constable said the $14million upgrade of Rossmoyne Senior High School meant students and staff now worked in new specialist facilities.

"Rossmoyne Senior High School is praised constantly as one of WA's strongest academic schools and it is only fitting that students can learn in modern facilities," Dr Constable said.

Completed work includes a new classroom block for teaching English and other languages; a cafeteria; extension to performing arts centre; outdoor amphitheatre; and external works.

New facilities included a staff room; food studio; soccer field; and improvements to the design and technology area.

Rossmoyne Senior High School principal Leila Bothams said students and staff appreciated the enhanced aesthetic appeal of the school and improved learning environment.

"Students have commented that the new arts' areas emulate professional studios, and staff have noticed students being more engaged," Ms Bothams said.

The Minister said the State Government was committed to providing high quality school environments for WA's public school students.
